GoPro & phone pole

Ground-based substitute for the drone (left at home). Normal traveler camera / phone accessories — not under DIAN’s UAS (HS 88.06) rules. Keep quantities personal-use; Form 530 only if you exceed usual traveler value/quantity quotas (DIAN modalidad viajeros).

Comparison

Option Good for Weak vs Mini 4 Pro Fit for this trip
Extendable telescopic arm + travel phone Elevated stills/video of statues, plazas, viewpoints without leaving the ground; light; cheap; uses the camera you’re already buying No true aerial / wide landscape from altitude; wind/shake on long poles; some museums ban sticks indoors Best default — pairs with the TODO travel phone. Aim for a sturdy pole with a phone clamp, not a flimsy selfie stick (San Agustín / viewpoints need height + stability).
GoPro (or similar action cam) Hiking, rain, hands-free, river/trek (e.g. Ciudad Perdida if that leg happens), short clips while moving Still not drone height; another device + mounts/batteries to pack/charge Strong add-on if you want motion + weatherproofing; optional if phone + pole already covers “higher angle at sites.”
Both Pole for composed elevated shots; GoPro for walk-and-shoot More kit to carry / steal-risk Only if you care about both use cases.

What you still won’t get: true overhead / ridge aerials of San Agustín complexes, Tierradentro terrain, coffee hills, etc. Those were mostly illegal or high-enforcement at the archaeology parks anyway (drone notes per site).

Site etiquette

ICANH parks ban noisy gear that disturbs the site; a quiet phone on a pole is a different category from a buzzing UAS. Stay on paths, don’t lean over barriers, and skip poles where staff ask (museums, crowded indoor spaces).

Packing notes

  • Pole: clamp that fits the travel phone; collapsed length for daypack; optional mini tripod foot if the pole has one.
  • GoPro: spare battery, mount(s), microSD, USB cable; check airline rules if any spare Li-ion packs are large.
  • Theft: keep action cam / phone on a strap or in a zipped pocket in busy areas.
