Overview

Brainstorming for seaside / swimming stops — not booked. Promote anything that becomes real onto the Itinerary.

Want: time in the water. Prefer clear, readable water (see bottom of this page) over murky open ocean. That filters destinations hard — Caribbean reef / lagoon / cenote-style spots beat muddy Pacific surf or brownish harbour beaches.

Candidates by country

Each country page has a dedicated section per location (Maps + example photos + how to reach / suggested stay + internationals / social stays). Hub stays thin on purpose.

Country Clearest / best fit for this preference Page
Colombia San Andrés / Providencia; Capurganá–Sapzurro; selected Tayrona beaches only Primary — same trip, no new visa
Mexico Cenotes (clarity year-round); reef (Cozumel / Puerto Morelos) if storms allow Pairs with Beyond → Mexico
Brazil Depends on friend’s city; Southeast winter beaches cooler; Bonito-style rivers if nearby Pairs with Beyond → Brazil

Other beyond-Colombia countries (Peru highlands, Ecuador Quito, Guatemala Antigua) are weak seaside fits for this trip window — don’t force a coast onto those branches.

How this fits the trip

  • Orthogonal to archaeology: coast can replace a weak inland ruin detour.
  • Competes with Cali dance days and any Beyond Colombia hop for the same leftover nights before 2–4 Sep.
  • Do not use “seaside near Cali” (Pacific) as the clear-water fix — see Seaside → Colombia.
  • Late August on the Caribbean = rainy / green season: water can still be swimmable, but clarity and boat access vary — check conditions locally; don’t assume postcard turquoise every day.
  • Hurricane-season tip for Beyond Colombia: if swimming is the goal, prefer Colombia seaside (or Brazil only if the friend base fits) over a Yucatán reef week in late Aug / early Sep — peak Atlantic storm window. Inland Mexico cenotes are more resilient than Cozumel/Cancún boat days. Full priority list: Beyond Colombia.
Note

I want to swim, but I’m uneasy in deep water I can’t see through — murky or dark water where the bottom (or what’s below me) isn’t visible. Prefer clear lagoons, shallow reef flats, protected “piscina”-style coves, or cenotes / spring pools over open, opaque ocean. Depth alone is less the issue than visibility.
