Bogotá¶
Goal: one or two calm practice sessions — café language exchange first; optional larger event or a short Spanish module if mornings are free around the wedding.
Dame tu Lengua (Chapinero) — primary lead¶
Café / cultural centre with language exchange most evenings plus optional English salsa (same venue on the dance page). Low intimidation: menu purchase required, mixed locals / foreigners, easy to leave early.
Source: Cultural Center — ¡Dame tu Lengua! (checked Aug 2026).
Location: Calle 55 N° 9-23, Chapinero. Open Tuesday–Saturday.
Language exchange (from their site; always order from the menu to enter):
| Day | Exchange window | Languages highlighted |
|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | 5:00–10:30 p.m. | French, English, Spanish |
| Wednesday | 5:00–10:30 p.m. | English, Spanish (+ creative workshops) |
| Thursday | 5:00–10:30 p.m. | German, English, Spanish |
| Friday | 5:00–10:30 p.m. | English, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish |
| Saturday | 4:00–10:30 p.m. | Global exchange (many languages) |
Coworking / café: Tue–Sat 3:00–10:00 p.m. (purchase required). Groups should reserve ahead.
Also on Dance → Bogotá for the Tue/Thu English salsa (COP 35,000) — useful if combining language + dance the same night.
- Pick one mid-week exchange evening; arrive early, try a basic Spanish table, stay 45–90 min.
Gringo Tuesdays (Zona Rosa) — optional, high energy¶
Large weekly language exchange + party. Official pitch: tables by language and level (Basic / Intermediate / Advanced), then international party from 9 p.m.–3 a.m. Every Tuesday; venue Vintrash Bar, Calle 85 No 11-53.
Source: Gringo Tuesdays — Bogotá (checked Aug 2026). Listed window 4 p.m.–3 a.m.; some event blurbs offer free entry with QR until 7 p.m. — confirm the week’s promo on their page.
Fit for shy beginners: go for the afternoon/early evening basic table only if curious; skip the late party if it feels like too much. Dame tu Lengua is usually a gentler first try.
- Decide Tue 18 Aug (arrival day — only if energy allows) or another free evening; skip Thu evening 20 (Welcome Event 5–10 pm).
Short Spanish classes (if mornings free)¶
Learn More Than Spanish — small in-person groups in Bogotá (max 3 students per their FAQ). Week-shaped packages, not single drop-ins:
| Program | Hours | Listed price (site) |
|---|---|---|
| 10-hour (grammar or conversation module) | 2 h/day Mon–Fri | US$140/week + US$50 one-time registration |
| 20-hour (both modules) | 4 h/day Mon–Fri | US$240/week + US$50 registration |
Source: In-person group classes (checked Aug 2026). Open to beginners with level placement.
Only worth it if staying in Bogotá most of a Mon–Fri block after/before the wedding — unlikely for the default spine. Prefer Dame tu Lengua for this trip’s Bogotá window unless dates stretch.
- Skip unless Bogotá stay expands to a full study week.
Strategy¶
- Dame tu Lengua once (Wed/Fri/Sat also work if Tue/Thu are dance nights).
- Gringo Tuesdays only as a stretch goal.
- Paid Spanish school → Medellín or Cali instead for denser morning availability.
